Half-Day Workshops
are designed for a maximum of 30 students.
The half-day workshops are typically lecture/demonstration for
the first portion of the class, with design exercises on grids and
diagrams provided for the class during the second portion. Numerous
quilts and block variations are shown in each workshop.
The quilt shown for each workshop is an example
using the block or style of the workshop and is not the only quilt
design that will be presented for that workshop. Click on link for

COLOR IN CREATIVE PATCHWORK Half day workshop
All skill levels
A design workshop for those who wish to employ patchwork in new design
dimensions. Patchwork such as Windmill, Friendship Star, Attic Windows,
Log Cabin, Railfence and Rob Peter to Pay Paul provide the opportunity
for designing with a focus on color. As you color the grids, blocks may
be combined to create individual experiments focusing on color and
movement, or one block may be repeated and/or manipulated to create a
new composition.

2. PATCHWORK HOUSES
AND BUILDINGS
Half day workshop
All skill levels
A workshop for the quilter who wishes to design a quilt inspired by
buildings or architectural features. Through exploring ways to simplify
and stylize, each participant will problem-solve building shapes and
motifs into patchwork; develop a theme by accenting and/or reproducing
architectural features; and begin drawing unique quilt designs. How to
enlarge to-scale line drawings will be reviewed for those wishing to
work with full-size patterns.

DENIMANIA --
CREATING WITH BLUE JEANS
Half day workshop

Learn
how to use recycled blue jeans to create a variety of clever projects such as stuffed toys, pillows, tote bags and quilts that
have people raving. There will be many examples to examine & you will
see dozens more in slides. Learn how to select jeans with personality &
how to cut them to accentuate your pattern or plan. Gain a different
view of old jeans!

4. COMBINE LOG CABIN AND PATCHWORK

See
what happens when Log Cabins join side by side with various geometric
patchwork blocks. In this design/drawing workshop, break away from
traditional Log Cabin; learn techniques for using a variety of block
sizes and how to manipulate color to enhance your design. Go home with
original design ideas sketched, color plans determined, and ready to
select fabrics to cut and piece.

5. INTRODUCTION
TO KALEIDOSCOPE PATCHWORK
Half day workshop
All skill levels
A workshop for the quilter wanting to design innovative and distinctive
Kaleidoscope quilts. Each participant will select specific block sizes
and consider variations of block layouts before using colored pencils to
color in design ideas. Finished quilts will simultaneously illustrate
color relationships, block variations and how secondary designs create
movement when blocks are joined together.

THE VERSATILE LOG CABIN BLOCK

See many ways Log Cabin patchwork has been stretched beyond tradition.
Quilts featuring creative, Log Cabin diamonds, triangles, off-center
squares and elongated rectangular blocks illustrate why this age-old
patchwork has been given a new look. A trunk show of quilts is
loaded with examples of innovative blocks, colorful designs and varied
project possibilities. Demonstrations of helpful hints and
techniques provide you know-how. You will receive line drawings
and block grids of the designs in order to customize your color plan and
individual preferences. Leave class with patterns and ideas
galore.

INNOVATIVE LOG CABIN
COURTHOUSE STEPS
Half day workshop
All skill levels
Get
a taste of exciting patchwork possibilities as you see square and
rectangular Log Cabins that don't fit your previous image of Log Cabins.
This planning workshop enables you to design and color on paper as you
simultaneously study color relationships and block variations. You will
get new block variations that were designed just for this class. You
will leave with completed grids inspired to create innovative Log Cabin
quilts or wall-hangings.

8.
LOG CABIN DIAMONDS
AND TRIANGLES
Half day workshop
Intermediate skill level
For the experienced quilter looking for more challenging Log Cabin
designs that use logs cut on 45 or 60 degree angles. You will learn how
to cut and piece Flavin's tumbling block and various diamond and
triangular log cabin blocks. You will learn steps to improve piecing
accuracy and will plan a color scheme on the provided design grids.

class designed for those wishing to learn how Log Cabin patchwork scenes and landscape are created. See how various Log
Cabin are combined to execute design details, enhance movement and
